Our history
Past
Holbox was founded in 1976 by Jan Hol, a qualified marine engineer. After sailing the oceans for a number of years, he decided that his future lay on land and started a one-man business in cardboard boxes. He started to produce displays a few years later.
Holbox Shop Direct, the latest venture to be set up by the family and part of the Holbox Group, was founded at the end of 2016. A webshop where creativity and passion forcardboard have resulted in unique products such as cardboard furniture, life-sizecardboard figures and fun toys for kids!


Present
The head office is located at an ideal base in Echt, from where Belgium and Germany are easy to reach. Holbox takes care of the complete process for all point of sale material, from the first sketch to the production, packaging and shipping of the product. Due to its success, this has grown into three separate branches: display, packaging and P.O.S. package, in which the design and production of the displays is the core business. Nowadays the company is still run by the family with great pleasure and passion.
Future
In the coming years, sustainability and making our products and processes more sustainable will become increasingly important. For example, grass paper, which consists largely of green waste, will play a major role, and tapping into new sources is inevitable if we want to produce displays even more efficiently and sustainably. Our planet is important and we want our stone to contribute to a better environment in any way we can.
For example, paper remnants from the production process are increasingly given a second life in the form of so-called 'Creative Waste', in which attention to quality and sustainability cannot be missed. New insights are constantly being gained, as our products are now available internationally and we are constantly growing.


Once upon a time...
The Holbox frog, which frequently appears in our visual expressions, has been an integral part of the corporate identity for years. The origin of our frog goes back to the year 1970, a time when we were looking for a logo that would be synonymous with an active, sustainable and colourful way of working. And so the idea arose to use a frog as a logo. Versatile, agile and green, just like the company.
But time has not stood still and Holbox has grown into an innovative and creative display producer with a strong international character. And the Holbox frog? We still find him by our side and he is more than ever a symbol of the ins
and outs of our family business. The frog is undergoing a transformation: from frogspawn to tadpole to a beautiful adult frog. Exactly the way a display travels: from the first sketch to a mock-up to the tangible and colourful product. And the pace at which the frog evolves is well comparable to the speed of our efficient production process.
Today, our frog has a modern look in origami-style, perfectly matching the way the sustainable developments at Holbox are unfolding. From product to production process, everything is viewed from a green vision. Just as green as the colour of our frog.
