More than a building
The new building literally and figuratively forms the foundation of Holbox’s sustainability ambitions. It was designed with maximum energy efficiency and minimal environmental impact as key principles and has been awarded the BREEAM Excellent certificate. In every phase of design and construction, long-term use, flexibility, and responsible energy consumption were central.
What is BREEAM Excellent?
BREEAM Excellent is an internationally recognized sustainability certification for buildings. It shows that a building performs well above legal standards in terms of sustainability, comfort, and future readiness.
A BREEAM assessment evaluates, among other things:

water consumption
health and comfort of users
ecology and environmental impact
building management and maintenance
An Excellent score is among the highest classifications within BREEAM. Only a limited percentage of buildings achieve this level.
