Holbox doubles capacity with move to new premises in Roermond
ECHT - From June 2024, Holbox will leave Echt and settle in Roermond. The growth of recent years and the ambition to continue to grow are the basis for the decision to build a new, fully circular building in Roermond. In this 27,000 m2 CO2-neutral building, the focus is even more on sustainability. In addition, this building with 17,290 m2 of commercial space and over 3,750 m2 of office space offers Holbox the opportunity to continue to grow, develop and professionalize in the future.
In addition to opening a new factory in Poland in February of this year, Holbox was also busy with plans for construction at the Morgenstraat in Roermond.
The plans are now firmly in place, the soil analysis has been completed and the project is currently in the permit phase.
The first stone will be laid in January 2023, and the new building will be ready for use one and a half years later. This will mark the start of a new phase of revolutionary developments for Holbox.

Energy neutral
Martijn Hol, Managing Director of Holbox: "At Holbox, we like to get things done. In addition to the further growth of the company Holbox, we are also tackling the sustainability of Holbox with both hands. This new construction project fits our values perfectly. In line with our ambition to become a footprint reduction company, we are fully committed to sustainability. Sustainability is more than a core value for us: it is in our DNA and is embedded in our products and business processes. We are already working on sustainability on a daily basis by using wood and paper products with the FSC® and PEFC quality marks, the use of sustainable raw materials in our production process and our own Sustainability ID. CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) runs like a green thread through Holbox's future."
Energy neutral is the key word in the design of the new location. The building is more than twice as large as the current location in Echt. Three thousand solar panels cover part of the roof. This number covers the power needs of the building. The building offers the opportunity to grow even further. Martijn Hol: "We can put twice as many solar panels on it, but that is a disinvestment because we do not use that power yet.
In order to comply with energy neutrality, we will be producing as much as possible in daylight hours. But we are also already working on storing this energy in batteries in so-called battery hubs. Through these hubs, energy can also be produced outside of daylight hours in an energy-neutral way. In this way, the building and the situation can be adapted to what is optimal for us."
Building layout
The largest part of the 27,000 m2 is used for production and storage. Departments that produce noise - such as CTP, printing, caching, technical service, die-cutting and the die-cutting department - will be situated under a storey floor. On top of that will be rooms that will house Shop Direct (webshop) and the design studio, among other things.
"From these rooms you look completely onto the production floor. We value that transparency highly. In the middle of the hall will be a central highway. That's where the automated and unmanned forklifts run," explains Martijn Hol. "It will have a high-tech look. We are the market leader in Europe and will remain so. You have to go along with that, because both staff and customers see it as a challenge. Everyone is going to work more innovatively because of it."
