Display Superstar Award 2022: The best of the best
Change was the central theme of the Superstar Awards this year. Thus, the industry event also changed and was expanded to include the display Summit. On the exhibition floor, the 58 nominated displays represented the entire diversity of the POS industry. 22 companies presented their latest solutions for sales promotion, communication as well as goods presentation, thus proving the innovative power of POS marketing.
The expert jury consisting of six members was impressed by the outstanding creativity and quality of the numerous submissions. Accordingly, it was no easy task to select the best of the best from all the good performances. The POS solutions were evaluated on the basis of comprehensive criteria. 33 winners can look forward to at least one exclusive industry award. Among them, Holbox won a Bronze Award for the Superbowl Display by Mars.
Display Summit
In addition to the exhibition area, trade visitors were also able to attend various presentations. During the Summit, experts spoke on topics that are driving the industry. The first panel focused on the topic of "The Magic of Change". Keynote speaker Sven Schultze emphasized how important change management is in order to be successful in the future.
The connection to retail was first made by Mailin Schmelzer from the market research institute IFH Cologne, who showed how the checkout zone is changing in the wake of the pandemic and digitalization.
Katharina Winkelmann from Wanzl described the effects of this change on shopfitting. In her presentation, she addressed self-checkout and 24/7 stores, among other topics. Timm Becker from POS Tuning demonstrated how merchandise presentation and inventory management benefit from digital solutions. Thanks to sensors with which the merchandise feed systems are equipped, merchandise flows, sales and marketing measures can be monitored in real time and optimized as a result. In the second panel, the contributions revolved around sustainable sales promotion.
Product designer Lutz Gathmann explored the question of which materials conserve resources - or only seem to do so. A practical example was provided by Dr. Marcel Brinkmann and Marek Kozuch from Werbetechnik Art of Display, who presented the "Closed Cycle" pilot project. In doing so, they explained how they use post consumer recyclates for the production of Artdeco displays. Following both panels, the speakers met on stage for a discussion and Q&A session.
Festive awards gala
On the evening of November 8, the display Superstar Awards were presented in the Hilton Goldsaal in Mainz. In the night of stars, 128 guests cheered the beaming winners. Gila Abutalebi hosted the event and provided the best entertainment.
Furthermore, the display Superstar Award invited to exchange ideas with colleagues in a festive atmosphere with good food as well as to make new contacts. The program included a keynote speech by pilot Andreas Lücker. Using various situations from his everyday professional life, he described how important it is to make decisions based on facts instead of being distracted by assumptions.

Room for ideas
POS promotions as far as the eye can see: anyone who wanted to get their own impression of the 58 exhibits was able to visit the display superstar exhibition in the Rheingoldhalle in Mainz. Numerous branded goods manufacturers, representatives from the trade as well as agencies and designers took advantage of the opportunity and were inspired by the exhibits.
The exhibition covered a wide range of POS concepts; from merchandise-carrying and self-presenting displays to packaging and digital signage solutions.
